Community Services include:

  • Food Bank Distribution Center
    As the lead agency for emergency food distribution, BMAC has responsibility for soliciting, storing, and distributing surplus, donated and purchased foods to regional food pantries. Emergency Food Vouchers are available at Helpline. In addition, BMAC is the local agency for the USDA's Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).   • Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program
    Provides home heating assistance to low-income households during the winter months.
  • Long-Term Care Ombudsmen Trains, certifies, and supports volunteer ombudsmen who regularly visit, resolve complaints, and advocate on behalf of residents of nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. For additional information, go to:  www.sewaombudsman.com
  • Pro Bono Lawyer Referral
    Referrals coordinated by BMAC to local attorneys who provide legal assistance in the form of workshops, legal advice, or representation for eligible customers for civil (non-criminal) matters, such as family law, bankruptcy and landlord/tenant issues. There is a Court Facilitator available in our office.
  • Transitional Housing Program
    Provides rental assistance and case management services for eligible homeless families for up to two years.

Housing services include:

  • Weatherization and Energy Education
    Assists low-income households, both rental and owner occupied, to control energy consumption and heating costs by comprehensive weatherization of homes, along with education about energy saving techniques.
  • Minor Home Repair
    Assists eligible homeowners who are receiving weatherization services to make repairs to their homes, such as roof repairs, replacement or repair of electrical and plumbing systems, foundation repairs, new flooring, etc.
  • Emergency Shelter Assistance
    Emergency housing assistance for homeless families housed at a shelter owned by BMAC and operated by the Christian Aid Center.
  • Personal Coaching Program
    Provides an individualized, life enhancement program for income eligible families who have electric heat.
  • Special-Needs Rental Units
    Affordable rental units are available for low income individuals who are seniors, developmentally disabled, chronically mentally ill, or have a physical disability. Many units are handicapped accessible.

Employment & Training services include:

  • AmeriCorps
    The AmeriCorps national service programs provide tutors for the Walla Walla valley schools to help students improve their reading and academic skills. These programs focus upon elementary and middle school students. See the AmeriCorps web site .
  • Workforce Investment Act
    Low-income youth and adults may receive employment and training services including career counseling, education, job training, job placement, and wage progression.  See the Workforce Investment Act web site .
  • WorkSource Affiliate Site
    BMAC Job Training Division is an affiliate of the WorkSource One Stop Initiative providing job search assistance to all individuals.  See the WorkSource web site .
  • Workfirst: Welfare to Work/Community Jobs
    Serving welfare recipients through state and federal contracts, BMAC Job Training Division assists individuals to reach goals of self-sufficiency through case management and work experience.  See the WorkFirst web site .
  • Employability Training Center
    The ETC enables the public to access computers to develop a resume or cover letters and have access to the Internet for job search. Computers are available to practice typing as well as completing a career interest and aptitude survey.
  • Adult Literacy Program
    Offers individualized assistance to adults working on improving their basic skills. This includes, but is not limited to, one-on-one tutoring in reading, writing, math, and English comprehension, and individualized job search assistance..
