Weatherization

The U.S. Department of Energy Weatherization Assistance Program (DOE WAP) has long served as the core program for delivering energy conservation services to low-income residents of Washington State. The WAP is administered through the Washington State Department of Commerce and Blue Mountain Action Council.

The Weatherization Assistance Program reduces the heating and cooling costs for low-income families by improving the energy efficiency of their homes and ensuring their health and safety. Households that are eligible for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are eligible for weatherization services.

Among low-income households, the program focuses on those with elderly residents, individuals with disabilities, and families with children. Low-income property owners and renters who meet the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program income guidelines are eligible for weatherization services

Energy saving services may include:

  • Air sealing to reduce infiltration
  • Attic Insulation
  • Sidewall Insulation
  • Floor Insulation
  • Pipe and/or Duct insulation
  • Limited Energy Related Repairs

Homes also receive a thorough evaluation of the heating system as well as health and safety testing of all combustion appliances.

Local licensed and insured private-sector weatherization contractors complete the work at no cost to the residents. The local agency inspects all completed work to be certain that the authorized work was completed in a satisfactory manner.
