About the Emergency Warming Center

Blue Mountain Action Council (BMAC), the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health, and Pioneer United Methodist Church are partnering to provide the Emergency Warming Center, a low-barrier shelter designed to offer protection from severe weather conditions.
‍

Generously hosted at Pioneer United Methodist Church (209 E. Birch St., Walla Walla) and operated by BMAC, the center provides guests with a safe, clean environment where they can rest, stay warm, and access basic necessities during weather emergencies.
‍
Walla Walla County Emergency Management and the Walla Walla County Department of Community Health authorize activation when predicted temperatures are forecasted (using the National Wather Serivce) to drop to 20°F or below, or to 25°F with precipitation during the winter season. When activated, the Emergency Warming Center operates overnight from 7PM to 7AM. Because activation depends on weather conditions, staffing, volunteer availability, and funding, BMAC will communicate opening dates, operating hours, and updates as they become available.
